Past from the Blast + Spring Video Mixtape premiering this Saturday night!
New Feature + Tomorrow's Saturday Night Livestream / Short Film Premiere!

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing two great new releases during a three-day stretch of being under the weather. I will be writing reviews for those next week and they are among the best of the year so far. And I had to work on a couple of creative projects too. All while finally finishing up my book proposal so fingers crossed for that! Probably won’t know about acceptance for a while.

First and foremost, especially if my book proposal doesn’t get picked, I’ll be premiering a new feature here soon called “Past from the Blast.” What this entails is going to the very beginning of the Director’s Club Podcast, perhaps listening to the episode and commenting on what it was like to record it. In addition, I’ll briefly review or highlight a title discussed on it from a current perspective. This idea stems from what friend, writer and commentator Bill Ackerman planned to do when we did our Favorite Films of 2015 episode.

He originally had questions and notes going through all of the Director’s Club episodes and planned to interview us about specifics regarding the guest, the content and the films we covered. Not to mention with this new platform where all the shows are being hosted and archived, it would be great to share insights and the episode in case it’s gotten buried (though I think that former co-host Patrick would prefer it stays buried).

What’s hilarious is the impetus came from me listening to the first episode in which I said, and I quote, “When I saw Mulholland Drive, I finally understood why there were David Lynch detractors.” You can imagine my shock hearing those words come out of my mouth when it’s gone on to become my all-time favorite film. Jim, how could you say something like that 14 years ago?!?!

“Past from the Blast” will be a sporadic nostalgia trip or another spin-off writing project that comes and goes or disappears, but I do really like the idea of commenting on the past the same way that others do when we look at old photographs in an album. We’ll see if it regularly happens; the first one is already coming next week! Honestly, with the way things are going in the world (and an upcoming move in late May), expect a summer vacation hiatus to take place for me to get settled and in a groove especially with podcast episodes. There will still be a lot of reviews, writing and features to come.

The premiere of my new short film, Silent Type, is also happening tomorrow (Saturday night) with a new video mixtape of hilarious sketches and excerpts from things that I personally find to be very funny. TV shows, commercials, movies, sketches from SNL & SCTV and so much more. About 30 minutes in after a favorite Key & Peele sketch, you’ll get to see my new short and sweet film which isn’t funny at all but something I am very proud of, following-up last month’s The Switching Division (which also had a 2-hour program available to stream and view below if you’d like - feel free to skip around).

February 2025 Video Mixtape

Let’s face it, we could all use a laugh right about now. I know I can, so tune in tomorrow for a second video mixtape livestream through my Kosmi channel. Really hope you’ll stop by to enjoy some funny videos and to see my latest short. If not, it’ll be archived and available on Vimeo just like the last one. Thanks everyone for the subscriptions and support. See you next week and excited about what’s to come here once I’m feeling above the weather again!
